What is General waste?
General waste is anything that is neither a liquid nor a hazardous type of waste. Typically, this includes things such as packaging, vegetation/green waste, dirt/rubble, waste wood and other "general cleanup around the section" materials.
There are basically two categories of general waste:
Bulky light waste:
Green waste/vegetation
Packaging
Old furniture/mattresses |
Heavier waste:
Concrete
Rubble
Old compost piles/ piles of soil |
Disposing of general waste

Hire a bin or skip to collect and contain your general waste - Cairns Transport will deliver and pick up your bin from your location.

Drop off general waste at one of our public Transfer Stations in Palmerston North or Feilding.
Green waste is everything that grows in your garden other than flaxes or cabbage trees (we can't take these as they jam up the shredding machine at the processing site).
Types of green waste:

General gardening waste (weeds, compost, leaves etc).
Disposing of green waste

Hire a bin or skip to collect and contain your green waste - Cairns Transport will pick up and drop off your bin at your location.

Drop off your green waste at one of our public Transfer Stations in Palmerston North or Feilding. We offer special discounted rates for dropping off green waste, so long as the entire load contains green waste only.
Recyclables include materials such as steel, wood, whiteware, LPG bottles, glass, plastics and batteries.
Disposing of recyclables

We accept any of the recyclable materials mentioned above at our Transfer Stations in Palmerston North and Feilding. Contact your local Transfer Station if you're not sure whether a material can be recycled.

For large amounts of recyclable materials, consider hiring our Mobile Recycling Centre (MRC), which allows you to sort and store large amounts of recyclable materials at your location. Cairns transport will collect your full MRC at the end of the hire period.
Hazardous waste includes solvents, paints, acids and oils, as well as laboratory waste and anything that you can't identify (such as waste in an old, unmarked container).
Disposing of hazardous waste
Medichem offer a specialised service for identifying, packaging, transporting and safely disposing of hazardous materials. A destruction certificate is provided, if required.
Liquid waste is any industrial waste that is in liquid form, such as septic tank waste, hydrocarbon interceptors, paints, solvents, industrial waste water, whey and grease traps.
